I’m sure one or two of you would like to know how my weekend went, so here’s a
quick rundown. (FYI: This post is 783 words.)
Saturday: The Rio Hondo Prep Varsity football team made it to the Division 13 CIF Finals. So that Saturday was scheduled around them. It was the last morning for D’s (kindergarten) boys soccer, so all the teams from both east and west facilities played a few games against each other. My boys got mauled, and Renzo was really upset. I don’t blame him.
After that, I had an hour break before my next job. I went home to prepare my laptop for the long drive in the afternoon. After moving all my data off my laptop onto my desktop, I loaded the latest and best downloads I’ve gotten the past few months. I was thinking that I’d give WordPress 1.3-alpha-5 another shot to see how some of the new templates looked like.
Before I knew it, it was time to go back to Kare to help clean up Santa’s Breakfast in the Pavilion (which led to church setup). We started at 11:30am, and didn’t finish until 2:30pm. (It was pretty exhausting.) I had an hour to shower and get ready for the 2-hour drive to Anza.
The drive wasn’t too bad. I didn’t really get too much done, although I did find out if I ever wanted to just upgrade WordPress 1.2.1 to 1.3-alpha, I’d want to use Manji as my template. My iPod kept me head banging whenever my good buddy Devon wasn’t playing a song I liked.
Del Taco was good, but we were only halfway there (if you go by time, not distance). Scary drive going on a 2-lane highway that second half of the trip – God had his hand over all of us traveling there and back. In any case, we still managed to get there earlier than most people.
I don’t want to talk about the game, but I guess I’ll say a little. They were stronger than us and the refs blew a few calls. (Don’t they always?😉 ) We got shutout 13-0. Andy (who helped them with weight training in the summer) commented that if we could’ve still kept our weight room into the school year, it might’ve helped a lot more. It was converted from a Junior High locker room to a weight room at the beginning of the summer, then back again at the start of the school year.
The drive was just as long on the way back – at the beginning, some car in front of the humongous Hoosiers-like caravan was holding all of us back on the narrow highway – even the rooters’ bus. Who brakes going uphill?
We ended up getting home around midnight, but I couldn’t sleep until 1am. I was idling on the computer, of course.
Sunday: One can only guess what would be mentioned time and time again at church. The volunteer ushers are the same high school varsity boys playing just 12 hours ago. Everyone was kind of gloomy, except for the pastor – he has to be cheery for us. I’ll skip to where the message was given by Mr. Greg Loomis. He’s also an English teacher at the school, as well one of the football coaches. He explained vividly of how proud he was of the guys the night before, and how the two prayers said before their team dinner and game were simply asking to glorify God. This man coached me once, and I’ve always looked up to him. As he got emotional (more than once while speaking), I think a lot of us did the same. It wasn’t sadness either, it was a joy to hear that those high school guys were praying for that.
No transition from that last paragraph (sorry), but after lunch with Andy, the rest of my afternoon was basically resting and sleeping. I didn’t go to the Youthchurch Christmas Party because I was just tired, and I didn’t like tostadas (don’t ask me, I don’t know what the Parents’ Auxiliary were thinking).🙂
I did talk to Matt for a bit, and I’m glad he’s doing fine. He’s been using Fedora Core 3 since last week, and has been loving it. Hopefully, he’ll be formally documenting his experiences here once I quit slacking and redo the site the way I’ve been wanting to.
Phew! That only took 20 minutes. Now, I need to get lunch, and get ready for coaching this afternoon. PCC and Citrus finals are this week, and my last one (Accounting 101) is on Friday. Best of luck to anyone reading this in the same situation.🙂
