Register your Starbucks card, you might get money

I had my Starbucks card registered a few months ago. This weekend, I got a postcard in the mail from Starbucks:
Because you’re a loyal registered Starbucks card member, we’re giving you a little gift: $5 loaded onto your Starbucks Card by April 19, 2007.
Use the $5 to treat yourself to that indulgent beverage you’ve always [...]

Lessons learned from a studying frenzy

The past two days, I’ve been studying like crazy for the exam I took this morning. (How’d I do? I’ll be extremely happy if I got a 70. There was just so much reading!)
Yesterday, between 9am and 1am (16 hours), I studied ten hours, napped for one hour, and maybe three hours for meals. I [...]

How to save audio files if linked to directly

Dave Seah linked to a SXSW panel (via Twitter), discussing “How to make your lame podcast listenable“. Problem? It goes directly to an MP3 file, so you can only listen to it within the browser and QuickTime. Not quite.
Solution: [Firefox] Go to File > Save Page As. Save that file wherever you’d like, and you’re [...]

Disable Snap Preview Anywhere inside the pop-up!

I just noticed that Snap changed their UI so you can disable those pesky pop-ups without the hassle of going to their website. Awesome! Compare that to the old-school way: “How can I turn Snap Preview Anywhere on or off?”
Sorry if this is old news…I just saw it, so maybe I’m not alone.

Export NewsGator to OPML

I just exported my OPML file from NewsGator Online, and imported it into Bloglines. Hurray!
NewsGator Manager > Edit Locations > OPML (under NewsGator Web Edition)
Click the link, save the file to your desktop, change the file extension to .OPML, reimport into Bloglines.
My Feeds > Edit > Import Subscriptions (under Extras)

Speed up ZipTorrent

If you have a firewall/router, you’ll need to open up some ports to speed ZipTorrent downloads. The program refers to this page, but not all routers are alike. The image below is for a D-Link DI-614+:

ZipTorrent weirdness

Why do downloads reappear after I’ve deleted them already? Their torrent file is gone, and I’m not seeding them anymore. Answer: The torrents are kept in C:\Program Files\ZipTorrent\torrents

Save as DOC by default

By default, documents in OpenOffice are saved automatically as SXW files, not DOC files. To change this, open Text Document and go to Tools > Options. Expand Load/Save, go to General, and under “Standard file format“, change the “Always Save As” dropdown box to one of the Microsoft Word formats (whichever one would be the [...]

My methods of troubleshooting computers

Basically, what I’ve learned in the past two weeks of dianosing problems with a system is that in most cases, you need to test the hardware level before testing software. The following is what I do so far, but I’m really in need of any additional tips, links, and/or articles that have more things I [...]
