Email

Finally normal?

Update 2: Rob replied to my post in his forums…

Although our eMail was working just fine, DNS Report said “it could not connect” which was true. That site had been temporary blocked as, for whatever reason, too many attempts were made using DNS Report to check our site. The Server thought it was an eMail Dictionary attack and temporaryly blocked the site from eMail access.

So there you go, other than sending pingbacks, everything is fine. :)

Update: Spoke too soon. This morning, it’s back down. My host’s domain, too. I posted in his forums about it.

I hope this is the last time I have to talk about this here. I finally just set my mail server up to the same IP address, and let it sit there. I come back later today, and DynDNS tech support says it looks like things are basically fine. Checking with DNS Report, sure enough - my mail server is responding! I’m now a bit closer to ditching Gmail.

Slight progress

I upgraded to WordPress 1.5.1.1. I haven’t tried pinging anyone, nor will I test it out. When the time comes, I’ll find out if they work. Otherwise, all seems to be okay.

MX records for email still isn’t setup, and I’m not sure how to set it up. Waiting for more information from my host (if he can give it to me somehow). However, looking at his DNS report, it basically matches mine at this time. I haven’t gotten a response from emailing him last night, so maybe his email is down too. In the meantime, remember: use my contact form, and email me at Gmail.

Email issues

I’m having trouble with my configuration at DynDNS and my MX entry. It’s gone now because it wasn’t working anymore, and I can’t quite remember what it used to be before. Whatever was working before wouldn’t let me keep it now.

My host contacted me and told me to just switch to his nameservers (with good reason - at least things would work just fine), but I paid for these awesome DNS services. All I need to do is figure out how to get it working again. Once it works, all will be “perfect”.

I’ve emailed DynDNS support - I hope they reply really soon, because I’d like to get this working before I’m out Saturday for most of the day. I’m sure emails to my domain are bouncing back to you like crazy. Sorry for the trouble! Send them to my Gmail account (use the contact form), and I can get back to you that way.

Ugh, afternoon yesterday. I’ve been trying to fix this long enough, and I don’t think I can do anything further, so I’ll try again in the morning if I have time. (Sorry!)

Organizing email addresses

If you have a PDA, how do you sync your email addresses in Palm Contacts with your email app? I’m looking for insight especially for Gmail users. Thanks!

I got yelled at

I got yelled at just now. This email was in all caps, and I felt so small. Not really, I knew he wasn’t exactly yelling. Still, if you’re typing, make sure your caps lock isn’t on when you send that email. Are there any global freeware programs that allow you invert the case of letters if you accidently wrote a long text of email? How about for Outlook 2000?

Will you use Gmail’s RTF?

Gmail is continually improving. With the additional space, they’ve added Rich-Text Formatting. Would you use this? Do your contacts have their email clients to read that formatting, or are they content with simple text? With simple text, email would take a smaller amount of space. Of course its negligible, but in a world where time is money, each second saved waiting for that message to download could save you a bit in the long run. “Input, input!”

Email hoaxes

This one is for my friends…

I know quite a few of you get email from friends and coworkers about whatever is going around.

Well, do a quick search before you send it off. Why? You could be sending pointless email that have to truth or validity. They’d also be aiding in the congestion of email servers everywhere. (Or, something to that extent.)
