December Challenge
Trevor Carpenter challenges us to take one portrait a day for the month of December (2007).
Trevor Carpenter challenges us to take one portrait a day for the month of December (2007).
This is Kate Hawkins, daughter of Marisa Hawkins. Cute kid, huh?
Here’s the other photo I took of her:
James Corsini is student at the University of La Verne and drummer for Phantom Scream.
He recently bought an acoustic guitar to mess around with, so he’s showing me his chops. I don’t think he needs it - he already drums and plays guitar in the air for free!
You can also find him at Flickr, where he’ll occasionally upload photos he takes with a Nikon D40x.
Here’s another photo I took of him that liked:
Shashi Hanuman is a Staff Attorney for the Community Development Project at Public Counsel (Los Angeles).
She’s also cool because I can talk to her about organization and stuff. Both she and her husband are into keeping your email inbox at zero.
Shashi has been putting off letting me take her photo, insisting that she wanted to wear makeup. On Monday, she said she’d remember for Wednesday.
She didn’t.
In my opinion, she really didn’t need it - look how great this turned out!
Lauren Ross is a student at Pasadena City College and volunteer at Kare Youth League within the RHLA program.
I’ve been wanting to take photos of Lauren because of her high energy and good-natured personality. Plus, she’s very photogenic. It helps that she’s always smiling and doesn’t need direction in front of the camera.
I tried to get her to pose with a sad demeanor, but she couldn’t look sad. Her brother, Jordan, tried to help, but failed miserably. In any case, it was a hilarious 20 minutes taking photos of her.
Here are other portraits from this photo shoot:
Marisa Hawkins is a Staff Attorney for the Consumer Law Project at Public Counsel (Los Angeles).
She loves photography, but hasn’t done it in a long time because she’s so busy.
I felt bad taking her photo, because she said she was tired and wasn’t wearing her contacts, but she was more than happy to help me get my portrait for the day.
I initially took a photo of Ruth Sandoval, but she really didn’t like it. I thought it was good, so I’ll leave it as my runner-up for Day 17.
Jordan Ross is a graduate from UCLA with a degree in psychology. He currently works at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, but is aspiring to go into the Fire Department as a medic. He’s also a founder of Respond Clothing.
I’d write more about Jordan, but to be honest with you, I just wanted to get this done today.
I know - tell him to utilize his Flickr account. After all, he does have a Canon PowerShot SD800 IS.
Andy Chang is a 5th grade teacher at Pearl Prep and coach at Kare Youth League (Arcadia, CA)
He’s playing “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360)” at home after a hard day’s work.
Today was uneventful. I processed some photos…and not much else.
I squeezed this in. I should be ashamed of myself.
Karla Pleitez is a Staff Attorney for the Early Care and Education Law Project at Public Counsel (Los Angeles).
Earlier in the day, I had to use the elevator a few times and got the idea. The background is some type of high-quality moving blanket.
It was a nice bonus that Karla was wearing mostly black - I felt that it added to the ambiance of the photos. I also took a few photos of her sipping coffee, but those didn’t turn out the way I liked.
Here are the two other elevator photos:

Tracey Kuchenski teaches at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in Los Angeles, CA. She, along with her husband, Steve, also “help” with our college group at Sierra Madre Congregational Church. (Help is an understatement.)
I was fortunate to catch the surprise opening her gift, without anybody in the background.
The closeness between the women in our group shows how much of a blessing she is to us.
Elizabeth Bluestein is a Directing Attorney for the Community Development Project at Public Counsel (Los Angeles).
Since I took photos of Barbi and Carlo, I figured that I should stick with CDP.
I wasn’t happy with the photos I took because I didn’t try any with flash. I was mixing up the location - the least I could’ve done was try it with flash. In my opinion, this was the best one, so you better like it!
