To delete or not to delete old posts?

WordPress 2.3 is coming soon and the feature it finally integrates is tags.

I have way too many categories, most of them were formerly tags (when I was using Ultimate Tag Warrior), so I need to dramatically delete most of them. Even if WP 2.3 didn’t have tagging, I’ve been putting this revamp for a long time.

In my opinion, I have a lot of old posts that aren’t worth having archived. I want them deleted.
I need to delete a ton of categories.
I need to analyze my writing style so I know what core categories I need to have.

If you’ve been reading here for awhile, which categories do you think are relevant to me right now?

Don’t delete them, unless you’re trying to hide from your past. You may want to close their comments, but don’t delete them. They’re like a record of your past and further serve to answer the enigmatic question, “Who is Bryan Villarin?”

From what I understand, WordPress 2.3 will convert your existing categories to tags, and it looks like your massive amount of categories would be better suited as tags anyway.

I would also say don’t delete. James is right. History is history. Your blog is the history of you.

Beyond that, old posts will continue to provide traffic to newer content. Old thoughts will help you connect with new people.

As far as categories, I have the same problem. I need to eliminate some of my old ones and create some new ones. The one I find myself using the most lately is life, which kinda covers everything, and therefore is pointless.

For you, maybe music, photography, gtd, tech, and random.
