I forgot to mention that one of the reasons why I wrote “Streamlining my backpack“: it was because of this: What should NOT be in my bag? Also, it was because I had to bring my laptop last week.
I will get a laptop sleeve so if that ever happens again, I’ll still only have to carry one bag instead of two.
I also missed his link to Zen Pockets, so I’ve downloaded that to my TE for reading during my commute this afternoon. It looks very well written (skimming the first few paragraphs).
As an update to cutting down, I’m better than last week. I got some cables for my PDA for work, so I keep my other one at home. I still have to bring my iPod firewire cable and power block, and I should get a small zippered plastic bag to keep the cord from getting crazy in there. I’m also just keeping the IR keyboard in my car, unless I feel I’m going to type something on the train (I haven’t felt compelled to yet). I did take the notebook, but only because the backpack felt too empty without it. I won’t do that tomorrow.
At least when I get back to school, my bag won’t be filled to its limits. I’ll take a whatsinyourbag photo later.
I went to camp two weeks ago (July 15-17), and took a team picture with my boys. It was before lights out, and they were pretty hyper. It was pretty hot and stuffy in the cabin - maybe about 80°F? Silas, thanks for sucking it up and not being in the picture to take it for us.
I tried Konfabulator last November and really liked it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t free - until now.
Yahoo! said the reason they purchased Konfabulator was that they wanted an easy way to open up its APIs to the developer community and allow them easy access to the information on the Yahoo! Web site. In doing this, Widgets could be built without having to scrape sites in order to get information.
I’m definitely going to start using it again, because I can afford free. Also, let’s look at this a bit deeper: Yahoo acquired Flickr, and that service has only gotten better. I believe they’ll do the same with Konfabulator. Well done, Yahoo…well done.

This week, one of the summer clerks has been using my computer for video editing. So, I had to find another vacant office to “work” in. It’s actually been kind of slow - don’t tell Scot. No, don’t do it! Just kidding, he already knows. I found an office, and it’s been my home for the past three days (including today).
Unfortunately, I’ve had to bring my laptop to work. I’m not too happy because my computer at work is a Pentium 4 3.2GHz with 1GB of RAM. Comparing that to my laptop, it’s a powerhouse. My other problem is that I now I have two things I carry with me: my backpack and my laptop bag.
I definitely need to rethink the contents I carry with me. (more…)
I choked it, but I don’t want to just give up on myself. Next time this happens, I need to have learned from my mistakes. I’m going to be as specific and general as possible. If you’re confused, read on. (more…)

The last time I talked about Flickr was about two weeks ago. Due to a conversation I just had with a friend, I’ll write about it again.
James Ume. posted pictures from Japan onto his MSN Space. Sunday night, I viewed it in Firefox, and basically had to look through all his pictures. There wasn’t a way to pick and choose from thumbnails. I saw them all anyways (and he took a lot of pictures).
Today, he told me to view them in Internet Explorer. Apparently, Firefox isn’t supported. In IE, was able to see thumbnails at the bottom, and could pick and choose pictures.
Why do I like Flickr? Because it just works. It’s currently the best thing I’ve used. Free MSN Spaces offers 30MB/month, and free Flickr offers 20MB/month; but if it’s the best tool to use anyway, wouldn’t you use it?
Laptop screen protection: I have shelf liner somewhere; mom bought a bunch of it, I think. I don’t care what color it is, I’m going to cut some out when I go home later. Awesome idea! (Golf clap: Lifehacker)
