Crash

My Tungsten E doesn’t crash too often. When it does and I don’t know about it, I wouldn’t want the battery to die because I didn’t press reset. I think I’ll install Crash as soon as I get home. (Golf clap: PalmAddicts)

Namesdatabase

Is The Names Database bad? My friend keeps sending me the E-vite, but I’m not sure if I should add myself in there.

Free CD/DVD burning program?

I got a new computer at work, and it came with a CD burner. We didn’t get any software with it. I’m sure my supervisor has something if I need it, other than the built-in Windows XP CD writing utility. Just for kicks, is CDBurnerXP Pro any good?

Happy staff appreciation day

Today was staff appreciation day. What did Public Counsel do for us? Give us the day off with pay, brunch at the lovely Corner Bakery at Farmers Market, and a free movie pass with a $5 gift certificate at the Pacific Theatres. The “Farmer’s Scrambler” breakfast entree was excellent, and “Sahara” was pretty good. How cool is that?

I gotta learn WordPress

Kare is switching their host from a free provider (that helps out non-profits) to the host I’m using. To you, that probably doesn’t mean much. For me, it’s quite a bit. I think they’re basically looking to me for setting the site up. It’s not that great right now, and they want it to be more functional for more than one person in the organization.

Why am I looking to WordPress? Because it’s powerful, and it can be a CMS. I don’t know where to start, though. I don’t know CSS, PHP, or HTML, except to tweak things here and there.

Other than looking through the WordPress Codex and support forums, any advice?

Umpiring fun

I got assigned to umpire a game this afternoon for 3rd grade boys. Last time I officiated: I can’t remember. Maybe 3-4 years. I think I did pretty well.

Thumbs are for grasping

Seriously, if you think about it the thumb allows us to grasp things. The muscles never evolved for fine motor dexterity.

I never thought about thumbs in this way. Makes me think about all that gaming I used to do when I played on my Nintendo and Super Nintendo. And what about text messaging? I don’t do that heavily, but I’m sure there’s some people that use their cell phones in conjunction with AOL Instant Messenger. Don’t mess up your hands.

Open house burgers

There was the RHP open house last night, and we were waiting for the burgers to get finished - along with 30+ people. I think 15 minutes passed, and only 8 burgers were brought out. The line stopped growing, probably because they could see it wasn’t going to get any faster. A nice woman came behind the person working at the wood grill and exclaimed sincerely, “Wow, we’re lucky to have you!” Riiight. *sarcasm* Indeed, the speed was blindingly fast. I don’t know what was wrong, but it was funny at the time. (No, I’m not mocking anyone.)

Quick and Dirty

Andy is letting me use his Palm Wireless Keyboard for my Tungsten E. (It’s no longer on the PalmOne website; it’s the one with 4 rows of keys, not 5.) I’ve had it stored in my glove box of my car for quite sometime - until yesterday. I just had a phone call, and wanted to jot a quick note/lesson to myself. I just popped it open in bed and typed it out in Memos. This morning, I did a HotSync to my desktop then created a new post for it right now. If I used the laptop right away, I might’ve been out of it. ;)

Get your drivers

Someone called me up late last night and was trying to get their laptop running the way it was before. However, he didn’t have his restore CD - just a Windows CD (I think). Anyway, it sounded like he got everything working properly except the integrated wireless card. He thought that all restore CDs were the same, so he was trying to get one from me. Sadly, they’re not, and now he has to figure out another way to get those drivers for it. Plus, he doesn’t know what model the card is. Yikes.

Lesson: Get all the information you can on your system, and get the drivers burned onto a CDR periodically, when cases like this arise.
