Troubleshooting home networking stuff
I was at a friend’s house for most of the afternoon yesterday, mainly chillin’ and testing out his brand new Philips DVD player (with Divx support).
A couple hours ago, before I was going to head home, he wanted me to try and narrow down a speed problem with one of his computers. His dad’s system wasn’t speedy when it came to using the internet. However, the computer in his room was fine. When we deduced that the DSL speed was fine, we tested his computer to see if the speeds matched. When it didn’t, and I was about to use the same network cable from the slower computer to test on my laptop, I saw that part of it was frayed. With a closer look, the cable was kinked as well. They didn’t think it would affect the speeds.
Bottom line: Try to narrow things down before knocking on the service.
For the whole year, they were ticked at the DSL service. With all this investigating, it was really a few overlooked things…and I’m totally stoked I was able to help them figure out their problem.
