I’m going to start using email signatures, so people can regularly see what I would (and should) type after each email I send out. However, I am bugged about the signatures getting bumped to the very bottom of the whole email - even after all the quoted text. After a long email or two from a few friends, nobody would even want to scroll through all those messages. I’ve been cutting and pasting my signature from the bottom to the top lately, but I’m hoping they can just switch a little something around. Hopefully the signature could be at the top of the reply, by default, so you can just start typing before it.
I sent the following to Gmail support (contact Gmail). If you can word it better, leave a comment so I can re-edit this post. Otherwise, if you agree with me and can help out on a cajoling campaign, I’d love it. (I don’t see that word too often, so I linked to the dictionary. I’m not trying to demean you, really.) Thanks!
If replying to an email, and you’re using a signature, place it before all the quoted text (rather than after it).
I sometimes forget to check out other blogs for a week or so, and I’m glad to have stumbled upon this bit of news.
Basically, AOL is forcing customers to find another broadband service here in the United States. It hasn’t been all over, just in a few states. But it will happen all over the country next year.
(Thanks Chris.)
Broadband Reports is one of the best places to find information on the best provider possible.
I’ve been with SBC DSL for a long time (Pacbell DSL), and other than a few problems last month, it’s been great for the most part. Well, except for the outsourcing, it’s great. You can search for SBC on my site and see everything (all three posts as of now).
Did I mention about the Broadband Reports forums, where one of the SBC techs felt so bad about my experience with the outsourcing that he bumped up my upload speed?
I was home for a bit earlier this afternoon, and was going to do some online stuff before getting to work. I don’t know what compelled me, but I fired up my Yahoo Launch page, and browsed to the jazz section. It’s actually pretty cool. When I bring a cup of Starbucks home, I’ll definitely play some jazz music to set the mood of being in Starbucks. (Too bad the ambience of the apartment doesn’t fit, but oh well.)
Before you think of downloading that program from a site that claims to clean spyware and prevent popups better than anything else, you should check this huge resource on the topic:
Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Websites (Spyware Warrior)
In addition to a listing of the suspect anti-spyware products and sites, it also has clones and knock-offs, legitimate and licensed, and trustworthy anti-spyware. Eric Howes did a great job on this resource.
(Thanks to “The Blog That Should Not Be” for posting this at his blog today.)
The excerpt has nothing to do with what happened today, but it’s what came out. Note: This entry is a bit more personal at first, then some Firefox stuff afterwards. I’m sure you don’t mind.
Update 2: There’s this pretty cool green-looking WP admin theme freshly posted - if you’re using 1.3-alpha.
Update: Found three more stylesheets from Not (That) Ugly. I don’t know the real name of the colors, so I’ll just say the three consists of light blue, a light shade of red, and some type of lime green.
In search of pre-made CSS mods specifically for the WordPress administration section, I’ve found a few sites that offer a couple available to all.
HeatherAnne.org
Chrysalidesque
I’m using Heather Anne’s Simple Blue theme right now, because I simply love blue. She did an great job on it, too.
In addition to the CSS file, she includes a slightly modified admin-header.php file, where you’re supposed to enter whatever title you want between the h1 tags near the bottom. If you just want your weblog title, insert the following wrapped in PHP tags:
bloginfo('name');
They’re all gone. Comments closed. Enjoy!
I’ve got one invite. Leave a comment if you want one. I’m hoping no Gmail hoarders get here, because I hate them. Everybody should just have one account - that’s it. I guess this will be a way to find out who visits here regularly, too.
Once they’re all taken, I’ll close the comments.
Their system seems pretty speedy now. It hasn’t been for the past few days. And yes, I know I misspelled the title.
Update: WordPress 1.5 is the latest version, so this problem should be fixed. Upgrade today.
I haven’t seen too much mention of this in the WordPress forums, but I’m hoping people don’t have to find out the hard way at the same time.
If you’re using WordPress 1.2.1, there’s a slight problem with the wp-login.php file. Try and get a new password emailed to yourself. It’ll come back in a 104 (105?) string of characters, encoded in Base64. That’s definitely not the password. You can decode that and login, though.
Developer Ryan Boren pointed out the solution, but I’ll restate it.
In wp-login.php, around line 65, look for:
function wp_mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers = '', $more = '') {
Right below it should be an empty line. Insert the following:
mb_language('English');
Save the file and upload. When you reset your password, it won’t send it to you in Base64…it’ll be in English again.
The last time I heard Live, “Lightning Crashes”, and “I Alone” was back in the mid 90s. (“Throwing Copper” was released in 1994.) Between then and 2001, I haven’t really followed them. Seeing The Tonight Show with Jay Leno just brought back some nostalgia from that time period, I guess. I was in 6th grade back then.
