This WordPress-powered blog hasn’t gotten spammed like others seem to have in the WordPress forums. However, if my luck ever runs out, I don’t want to be standing flat-footed. I installed Spam Karma, a feature-rich WordPress plugin that implements multiple anti-comment spam technologies. Although there’s a lot of components, installation involved uploading a few files, changing a folder’s file permissions, then activating the plugin. No hacking any other files, either. Within a couple minutes, it was ready to go.
If you have a WordPress blog, and you haven’t implemented a anti-spam technique, please check out podz’s WordPress guide “Tackling Comment Spam“.
(This is the aftermath of the Yellowcard concert at UCI.)
I’m going to see Yellowcard, The Starting Line, Days Away, and Hey Mike at the UCI Bren Events Center tonight. If you’re there, I’ll be the 6-foot Filipino guy wearin’ a white Quiksilver hooded sweater, a black Dickies jacket, or a black Hurley T-shirt. I’m with a bunch of friends. So, just in case you happen to be there. ![]()
I had a few things saved in QuickNote, so I just decided to dump them here…
Will count the number of words in any text that is selected. Simply highlight the text, right-click, and select “Word Count”. A pop-up window will show you how many words are in that selection.

I’m not using this extension right now because - I don’t know if it’d benefit me too much. In any case, maybe someone can tell me why I’d love it after you try it out?
Run PHP code from your WordPress posts. Drop PHP code into your posts, even mixed with regular HTML, and have it eval()’d at run-time. Works for both PHP 1.2 and 1.3 alpha.
I’m definitely considering using this for the couple of static pages I have, like my links and archive pages, so WordPress can manage those as well. Right now, they’re separate static files.
Gadgets rule in digital home (CNet News)
I just came home for a bit to check my email (friend’s house has dialup), and 17 spam emails got through the Gmail filters. Yeesh. Other than that, things are okay. ![]()
I can’t remember all the CSS properties/selectors and HEX colors. Listed below are a few sites that you can refer to in a pinch. I’ll add to this as I come across more reference-type sites, then sticky it at the top for a day.
Webmonkey (Hex) Color Code Reference
HTML Goodies Hex Color Codes and Names Reference
4096 Color Wheel (Thanks Sam!)
VisiBone Webmaster’s Color Lab - this page shows the last eight colors you click on, so you can see which colors look good with each other. (Thanks Anthony!)
Last night was pretty funny. I met up with a friend to study with at the library. We’re there for probably 30 minutes, when it turns out they close really early. 9pm? Yikes. We take off for the nearest Starbucks - where all the tables are being used up. Rubbish. Rubbish! We ended up just coming back to my apartment to study for another hour before my friend went home, calling it a night. My mom cleaned up a bunch of her stuff, so at least it was pretty clear in the living room. (Thanks mom! You won’t read this, so…yeah.)
On another side note: man, it’s cold here in California - what in the world!?!
LJ wants to see if he could get a free iPod. He’s cool - help him out, if you’d like.
I tried this a couple months ago. I attempted to complete AOL, Ancestry.com, and Blockbuster online. I’m pretty ticked, especially since I tried pretty hard to get people to sign up. Two referrals did their job, and I would’ve tried to get more - but none of the offers I completed went through.
Another friend (Brian Gaut) got one before. I’m going to see if LJ can get one, and if he succeeds, I guess I’ll try again.
Note: Don’t comment posting to your referral ID. It’ll be removed swiftly.
