Update: I’ve switched to PDFCreator. It’s Open Source, stable, and it hasn’t tied up my print spooler like CutePDF Writer has.
Print from just about anywhere through a PDF driver, then save it as a file. Type a word document just the way you want, convert to PDF, then email to whomever you want. They’ll see it exactly the way you want them to. No catch - it’s free! [CutePDF Writer]
Someone finally finds the real reason why Gmail doesn’t just go public. Thanks Alex and Robert (Scoble)!
I met Chris Uhlik of Google. He’s the program manager of Gmail and the Google Toolbar and a few other things…I asked him why they only give out a few Gmail accounts at a time. Remember, I thought it was sheer marketing genius. Turns out it wasn’t. Turns out they don’t have enough server capacity to deal with everyone who wants an account. So, when they buy a new server and get it installed they hand out another round of invites.
A9 is Amazon’s new search engine. It’s not too bad, although I wish the text were bigger. At least the search results are enhanced by Google. I know Matt likes it. If Google doesn’t work, this’ll be my next stop.
Man, I forgot to take Ted Lilly and John Thompson off my bench yesterday on my Fantasy Baseball team! Lilly shutout the Orioles for 8 innings with 6 K (strikeouts), and Thompson also did well with a 7 inning shutout and 5 K. *sigh*
I was in first with a 20+ point lead. Now, I’m in second place back at least 20 points. That would’ve helped. It’s falling apart for me. Then again, the person in 1st place had awesome players the past month with Beltre, Ichiro, Chipper Jones, and the list goes on.
I finally convinced myself to clean install Windows XP, so I decided to try out nLite to see how well it worked. For some background:
It takes quite a bit to do step 2 and 3 on that site, which requires manually typing some batch files and stuff. nLite is different because it allows you to do essentially all from a GUI (Graphical User Interface).
All that’s really required is the .NET Framework and a CD burner. I had already slipstreamed SP2 (Service Pack 2) onto my Windows XP CD, so all I had to do was go through the other prompts.
Safe XP is a free software to allow users to quickly tweak various security and privacy related settings in XP. The options include Media Player settings, Services settings (error reporting, time synch, remote registry etc.), as well as and option to remove items from the Start menu, network security settings and more.
Safe XP improves your system performance and makes Windows to run faster, more secure and reliable!
I see it gets updated fairly often, and looking at the screenshot, it looks like it could save time when tweaking a clean install. Anybody want to chime in and suggest whether or not it really is a good utility?
Being able to migrate from the other major email clients will definitely be the major selling point once Thunderbird turns 1.0. Blocking remote images is now another added feature, which I’m sure all will appreciate. (Sidenote: Spammers can also verify your email address by inserting images that “phone-back” to their server…or something like that. I know at least Yahoo and Gmail have this privacy feature.) …for the apps running in the background. A very awesome and brand new service. [ProcessLibrary.com]
Apparently, someone has taken the liberty of creating a service pack for Windows 98 SE themselves. But, it seems to be constantly in need of fixing. At least it seems to be popular at Majorgeeks. In any case, image your system before trying this out, just to be on the safe side.
On my Tungsten E, I’ve just begun really using this nifty calculator called powerOne Personal. It’s more than just a standard calculator. I can calculate sales tax, tip for a restaurant, and even the difference between two times (handy for totalling on a time card). And there’s additional “templates” if I need more functionality, where most are free. Nice to know I don’t have to get another separate program!
