So tired!

One of my friends came over today after church and lunch to help me with homework and study habits. We started around 1:30pm and he left at 6:30pm. We were working straight thru, too, no breaks. I just had some dinner right now, and I’m going to work some more. Actually, I think I need some Starbucks first.

On a side note, it looks good that some of my fantasy baseball players did extremely well today. (Albert Pujols, Jeff Kent, and Bobby Abreu.) Unfortunately, it’s winding down and before these points are added in, I’m 22.5 points behind the current leader.

Tweaked layout a bit

Your browser (totally) isn’t messed up - I just changed the CSS a bit to some of the elements from the original Frank Blue stylesheet. I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to tweak things for me, but I guess it’s better than nothing. (Oh yeah, the Web Developer Extension totally helps!)

A “couple” SF apps

I was taking a break from studying, and felt inspired since I got Synergy from SourceForge. So, I went thru SF for awhile to see what programs might look promising (read: high activity and stable). Here’s a list of what I’ve seen:

VirtuaWin - The Virtual Desktop Manager

Notepad++ - a free source code editor which supports several programming languages under MS Windows

I need a new monitor

I’ll copy and paste the main points of the the primary thread into here:

My monitor takes up too much space. I only have 1 foot of surface to work and write with. I have to do my homework elsewhere here at home, which includes the bed or the futon. They’ve been disastrous to my schoolwork.

…If any of you can spot me this money via PayPal, I’d really love you for it. If you’d like for me to pay you back, I will over the course of a month or so…just don’t charge me interest (please?).

Once I get that LCD monitor, I’d sell my current one in hopes someone buys it on eBay.

Thanks!

I’m desperate.

Why you shouldn’t be using passwords of any kind on your Windows networks

I don’t know if this needs to apply for home users, but in any case, its something I’ve never read before. If you’re on a NT-based network, with NT-based clients, this article is should be something you should definitely read. It was writen by Robert Hensing, senior member of the Microsoft PSS Security Team.

Why you shouldn’t be using passwords of any kind on your Windows networks…

So…are my random 8+ character passwords still okay? I use random letters and numbers for websites and forums I frequent. Somebody give some peace of mind by leaving a comment while I change my two Windows XP machines here at home to pass-phrases. :)

So Many Screens!

Synergy (an open source project) looks awesome! (Thanks Matt!)

I think I’ll definitely try this out with my laptop. How much simpler would it be to just all of a sudden be working on it with the same keyboard and mouse? And how about that multi-screen setup? Wow…

…share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware.

Update: That didn’t take long at all. 10 minutes later, I’m messing with both systems back without a hitch (both Windows XP, using Synergy 1.1.7). The only thing is that the command prompt is always in the taskbar - nevermind. Change “Logging Level” to “Error” and it’ll go away unless there’s problems.

A Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal How-to

One of my favorite reference articles on how to remove spyware has been updated. I haven’t exactly looked for others, but if you’re a computer consultant of some type, or people just ask you to clean their system of this garbage, this is definitely a comprehensive article of how to go about it. Even if you know the steps, it’s good to refresh your memory in case you’ve overlooked a few things as well.

For the new people reading it, I know it can be daunting. Just follow the steps one by one and it’ll provide you with visible results.

Oh yeah, Panda ActiveScan is another free antivirus online scanner they didn’t include. That’s the one I use. ;)

Invisionboard goes 2.0.0 Final

To my delight, IPB 2.0.0 is final! I’ll be aiming to upgrade our forums within the next couple of days.

New Gmail spam count feature

I noticed this morning that Gmail finally added a feature that indicates how much spam you have in parentheses. Now I don’t have to check extraneously when I don’t even have spam. I like to keep it clear so there’s less to sift through, in case a false positive sneaks by.

Help the Googlebot understand your web site

I can see “a few” tips I definitely need to check through sooner or later. Hopefully sooner. (Thanks Chris!)

When authoring a web site, keep in mind that the Googlebot is software, which means it has a set of capabilities and limitations and algorithms it uses to index content. There are lots of effective ways to trip up the Googlebot and make it impossible for it to index your content. Alternately, the Googlebot can index your site well, and then people will find it when searching for words it contains.

As a web site author, there are a few simple things you can do to help the Googlebot understand your web site as fully as possible.
